"The process of WoTLK Classic Gold restoring the classic game isn't straightforward and it's vital for us to invest the time and effort needed to make it perfect. This includes looking over multiple game versions including data, code, and data carefully analyzing every changes we've made over the many years," Blizzard's dev team put it in writing.

"All the work we're doing will ultimately enable us to recreate a genuine classic experience on a platform much more optimized and stable which will allow us to avoid latency and stability issues. Further improvements will include modern botting and anti-cheat detection, customer services along with Battle.net integration, and other options that won't affect the core gameplay experience."

Blizzard says that the initial WoW Classic prototype was in essence rebuilt patch 1.12: Drums of War from diverse archives and source code. This led to some significant issues such as game crashes, issues with modern video cards, issues with the current login system of Blizzard and more. The developers claimed they've created the second prototype with the latest game's code , including all of the structural improvements, which will enable them to develop the 1.12 version of the game that is safe on modern devices and compatible with the current infrastructure.
