But, despite that it wasn't actually 2K's concept, it was J. Cole's idea. "Three and a half years ago, in the past, when he was dunking on one of the breaks of The All-Star Weekend Saturday Night, J. Cole said 'Ronnie I'd love to be in MyCareer and help you think about the ideas around it."

Ronnie 2K tells Complex. "I worked with our team in bringing this concept to life. It was fitting to work with his. The moment we released that tease, everybody thought it would be another basketball player...it allows us to experience the world of fashion, culture, and music, and 2K has his seat at now."

It's now a moment in culture and its intersection with pop culture, music fashion, sneakers and, of obviously, basketball has taken the game to levels that have not been matched by any other game. The most recent edition of the game, NBA 2K23. the game broke records when it announced J. Cole as the first ever rapper to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K with the Dreamer Edition. Although it's definitely a surprise that 2K announced a cover like this especially so late in its release, the overall trend of the game's own design may have implied that this might happen some day. However this was Cheap NBA 2K MT not the brainchild of 2K, but J. Cole's.
